Each year the Southard's invite us down for a their family Halloween Party. It's full of fun with a scavenger hunt, dinner, and bobbing for apples. I came down a few hours before the party started and we went for a ride on the Stringtown Nightmare Express Train Ride. We've been in years past to their Christmas or North Pole Train Ride, but have heard about their Halloween adventure. The Stringtown Nightmare Express started in 2006, and has run every year since. I read that when they started they had 900 guests ride the train. Last year, in 2010, we set another new record with 9,250 riders on the Nightmare Express. One of the best ideas I've seen. My kids had a grand time and it's all free! It takes over 200 volunteers to create and run the Nightmare Express. Most of these volunteers are cast members, and play characters. There are also, of course, an entourage of scarers scattered about the Nightmare Express, usually hidden stealthily among the other props. Before the train started they asked on a scale of 1-10 how scary do you want you ride? And since we had cousins ranging from 16-2 we said a 3, but Jaron had his eyes covered most of the time. It was a fun night another opportunity for the kids to dress up in their costumes and have fun with their cousins. Great memories and Great Fun!
