| The Herbst Team at the finish! |
Last Saturday, Mike participated in a relay run called Ragnar. He ran the Wasatch Back with a team of 12 that started in the city of Logan, Utah, on Friday and crossed the finish line on Saturday in Park City, Utah. We have only ran a few 5K's together in the last few years, but really never ran much in organized races. This was a big race with each of the 12 running 3 different "legs". Each team member ran different distances and difficulties all within 24 hours. Mike was in van #1, runner #4, which started in Logan and he ran his first part at 5 o'clock in the evening around Paradise and the Avon Pass and then again around 2 am in Morgan valley. Then his last leg he ran around Jordanelle Reservoir about noon on Saturday and ended in Heber. Since it was so close to my parents cabin, I took the kids up to Timberlakes and slept there the night before and met him at his last exchange. My parents and sister, Emily, also came to see him finish and to cheer him on. We made a banner for him and all the kids were so excited to see him run into the exchange, finish his part and pass off to the next runner on his team.

Mike said it was hard, crazy, but rewarding and the best part about it was the team he had. Of the 12 members, 10 were family. The Herbst Clan of a brother, sister, in-laws and many cousins. They had a great time together, running, laughing and creating memories. I am so proud of him, his hard work, dedication and desire to do something very challenging. Their team did incredible, coming in under 29 hours and that total time made them in the top 30 of their division. With over 1,100 teams that's amazing! It must of been fun because he already signed up and paid to run it again next year! Good job, Mikey! We love you!
