Southern Utah

Each year in February, Mike has a conference in St. George, Utah, for work. It is required for all Engineers/Surveyors to have continuing education credits each year to renew their license from the state. Since the company was paying for most of it, we checked the kids out of school for a few days and headed down south for a family get-a-way. It is always so cold in Northern Utah this time of year and so warm in St. George. This year it was 64 degrees and it felt like summer! For two days Mike was in classes and we hung out at the pool, went shopping at the outlets and RELAXED! It has really become a fun family tradition and we look forward to it each year.

On Saturday, we usually stay an extra day or two and go sight-seeing. Last year we went to Las Vegas, the year before Zions National Park, but this year we drove an extra two hours through Kanab and down to Page, Arizona. It was beautiful! We saw Wahweep. A marina for Lake Powell. Oh, I miss those many years of my childhood of coming and spending a week here! We always went to Bullfrog Marina where our houseboat was stored and never made it this far south, but just seeing the water and the red sand made many memories come flooding back.

We also saw the Grand Canyon! Parts of it anyway, it would take a week to explore it all. So we visited a section called, Horse Shoe Bend. It was amazing and breathtaking! I visited the Grand Canyon when I was about 10, but Mike has never been. So, he was very determined to go. While we were there we visited an amazing place called Antelope Canyon. It's about 20 miles out of Page on the Navajo Reservation. It was noting like I had ever seen. It was created by water and wind in the sandstone and changes every time it rains! Professional photographers come all over the world to explore and take amazing pictures of this place. I had so much fun with my new camera! Still trying to figure out how to use it, but I had fun trying out all the features!

On our way back we stopped at the Glen Canyon Dam. We paid the $3 and took a tour. The engineering side of Mike was shown and he was like a little kid when they took us down the elevator in the dam to see the turbines. The boys really like it and asked the guide a lot of questions.

The pictures of Lake Powell make me want to jump in my car right now and spend a week down there. I'm so glad you guys had a great time! I love all the pictures.
