Our Family -- Thanksgiving Day 2009
This year for Thanksgiving, we had to interrupt our tradition of the rotation to be with the Herbst family and stay home. Since we have a two week old baby, it was going to be too hard to travel the long distance to Idaho, worry about the cold, weather and all the awful sickness that is going around. All of my doctors and pediatrician strongly recommended that we hibernate the next 5 months to prevent our little baby from getting RSV, the Swine Flu or any sickness that is hard on a newborn. We felt a little sad and missed the family terribly, but honestly it was a nice change to just stay home to rest and recuperate. I was not really feeling like myself just yet, but bought most of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner before Jaron was born so we could celebrate somewhat. Even though we were not planning on it, we did get to visit a little family. My mom and dad had Melinda and her family over for the big dinner and we stopped by for a little while, but then came home and cooked a turkey with all the trimmings. I had a load of help from Mike and the kids. They had so much fun helping me! While we prepared the food, we talked about Thanksgiving, why we celebrate it, our favorite traditions and what we are grateful for. I love having a holiday to help bring everyone focus back to gratitude, love and counting each of our blessings. I feel it is a wonderful way to lead into the Christmas season.
