Pioneer Day

This year Pioneer Day fell on a week-end, so it felt like we celebrated all 3 days. It started off with a late night date with Mike to see the new Harry Potter Movie and waking up to cook a neighborhood breakfast for over 100 people. (This is a tradition my parents started in their neighborhood) It was fun to help and visit with old friends, past primary teachers, YW Leaders and bishops. I always feel so welcome going back home to my parents neighborhood and ward. After we cleaned up, we ran home to have a water party and BBQ with Mike's mom (who came down from Idaho to visit) and his brother, Ryan's family. We even tried to chase down some fireworks late that night.
The next morning we finished swimming lessons and headed to Salt Lake to visit "This is the Place" Heritage Park and museum. It was so much fun! We walked around a old rendition on a pioneer town learning how they used to live. Everything from going to school, making candles, nails, leather works, doing laundry and a few chores and pioneer games. We got to see Native Indian dancers, parade, candy cannon, a petting zoo and go on pony and train rides. It ceases to amaze me how the pioneers used to live. I feel very blessed with all the modern technology today and grateful that they made so many sacrifices to come to Zion. The kids had a great time and it was fun to have Grandma Herbst there to share it with us.
