Memorial Day Week-end

.
Here is a little Memorial Day Trivia. Did you know that Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day? And that it didn't become an official day of observance until 1971? But started as a day to observe those who had given their lives for this country from the Civil War, then WWI and on to WWII and eventually changed to honor all fallen soldiers? Well, I wanted my boys to know why we celebrate this holiday and not just remember it because it's a day off from school and Dad's home from work. We did a little research at the library and learned all about it. (and passed off one on Nathan's scout requirements) :) As a family we did the usual visit our family grave sites, but did a little family play time as well. We kicked off the week-end by going to an old-fashioned drive-in movie and saw "Night at the Museum 2". The kids loved piling pillows and blankets in the back of the SUV and eating take out while playing "Go Fish" to wait for the movie to start. It was so much fun! Then after a little yard work and soccer games on Saturday, we played again on Monday with the big boys playing a round of golf and then we all played a game of miniature golf at good ole Cherry Hill. The weather was perfect and even ended the day with a family BBQ and home-made ice cream! What a week-end!
