Pinewood Derby

Last week, Nathan had his first Pinewood Derby race in Cub Scouts. It was a lot of work, but so much fun! We started his car about 2 weeks ago and I'm sure glad we did. It took hours! With 2 pages of rules that was given to us by the Cub Master, we realized we didn't have all the saws, tools and equipment needed. So, we called my dad. He can build anything and has every tool imaginable. He let us come up and use anything we needed in his heated garage. It was fun watching Nathan draw and create what he invisioned. I was a little nervous having him use the saw, but with 2 adults supervising, it all worked out. After we finished the car, we had to turn it in 3 days before the big event for final inspection by the judges. When we got to the church the night of the race, I only began to realize how big this event is. They hired a company to come, bring their special racing track and it even had a computer that recorded the times of each car, race and who took 1st, 2nd and so on. Our pack has 34 boys and 13 Wolfs and Nathan had to race his car 16 times! To make it fair, they race every car on each track and average the times. To our surprise, Nathan's car took 1st place with his den of Wolf's and over all the scouts his car took 2nd! He sure has fun displaying his trophy and blue ribon. We had so much fun and to say the least Nathan is already planning next's years car.

Here is a video of the first three races that Nathan won 1st place on each!

Happy Boy!
