The last 3 days we’ve spent in Edinburgh, Scotland, have been incredible. We visited Mike’s mission home and met the current AP’s. We walked around the grounds and they showed us the mission office, etc. Then we toured Holyrood Palace, which is one of the current residence for the Queen. She visits here every summer and holds a banquet in the gardens. After, we hiked up to Aurthur’s Seat. The local members call it Pratt’s Peak because it is where Parley P. Pratt came on his mission and dedicated Scotland for the preaching of the gospel and later baptized over 1,000 converts. We also visited Princess Street, The Royal Mile, Waverly Station and a monument for Sir. Walter Scott. The next day we toured Edinburgh Castle and saw the crown jewels of Scotland and then drove out to Roslyn Chapel. This church recently reclaimed it’s fame by the book/movie DaVinci Code. It was built in the 1200’s and was breathtaking. Then we found the LDS church nearby in Dalkeith where Mike baptized a few members. Then we speed to Craigmiller Castle. This one is probably my favorites so far. Most of it is crumbling, but they have repaired the major things. It was built in the 12th century. We were pretty much the only ones there and had so much fun exploring every room. We were amazed that a castle built so long ago had private lavatories (make shift toilets) in their 3 & 4th floor bedchambers. The highlight of this city was attending the Military Tattoo Festival (which we had to buy our tickets last October). It was held in the courtyard of the Edinburgh Castle and they had hundreds of men wearing kilts playing the bagpipes, marching in formation and the most amazing firework show above the castle that we’ve ever seen! What an amazing city! Well, we had better hed to bed. It's 1:00 am here and we need to get up early to go to church.
