Bath, England

Now that we are back, a little settled and I've done some laundry, I can update my journal on the last week of our trip. Last Monday, we drove from London and headed west, to the town of Bath. It was really a beautiful city on a hillside. For a little history, thousands of years ago the Romans built this city and temple in this valley made of an extinct volcano. There they found natural hot springs and built the legendary "Roman Bath". It was amazing! They actually built a spa 2,000 years ago. Another neat thing about this city is this is where Jane Austen lived most of her life writing. We got to go to her house, now a museum, and toured her residence. I can see how this city inspired her novels. It was a very romantic place. The next morning we drove to the spectacular Stonehenge. I wasn't sure if a bunch of big rocks in the middle of nowhere was going to be fun, but after walking around and listening to the tour, it was breathtaking. These stones were brought from the corners of Ireland and with the modern technology of image mapping can date them from 3-4,000 years old. Okay, so I'm used to visiting sites in American that only date back a few hundred of years. We loved hearing all of the speculation of why they placed them the way they did and why they took care of the henge for over 1,000 years. I definitely wonder if this was a vacation or a history class. We have learned so much on this trip!
